Speaking Kindly

Pro 31:26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Jas 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! Jas 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

We have alot of power in our words we speak to our families. Have you found yourself saying something to your children or husband and immediately know that your words cut them? James says our tongue has the ability to be so evil, we use it to bless the Lord then in the next breath we curse another. I have been learning to sometimes say nothing at all:

1Pe 3:1 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 1Pe 3:2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct.

More than our words, we need to live a godly life in front of others, sometimes I think our words get us into trouble. See how it says "without a word". Proverbs 31:26, she opens her mouth with wisdom and she speaks with the law of kindness. Every time we open our mouths we need to ONLY open them when we will have kind and wise words to say.

Jas 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

We need to go to the Lord and ask Him to give us this wisdom and kind words. As a helper to our husbands we have the amazing ability to tear down or build up, our words can wound and destroy our husbands or family ( and friends) or we can build up, encourage and strengthen those around us. Let us be godly in all conduct.

Joh 15:12 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Joh 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. Joh 15:14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. Joh 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. Joh 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. Joh 15:17 These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

Ruth

The Story of Ruth is a wonderful example of how God redeems a people and it is truly a love story, and a picture of Christ, our kinsman Redeemer.

I encourage all of you to go read the book of Ruth, it's only 4 chapters.

A back round of who Ruth was, she was a Moabite. They were a wicked people that worshiped false gods. They also were the result of an incestuous act between Lot and his daughters.

Gen 19:34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. Gen 19:35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. Gen 19:36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. Gen 19:37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

As you read the story this woman, though she came from an evil people, was a beautiful "Proverbs 31" woman. Read what she says to her mother-in-law after Ruth's husband dies and Naomi tries to have her leave and find a new husband from her own people.

Rth 1:16 But Ruth said, "Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Rth 1:17 Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you."

As you read the story you will see she was hard working, (Pro 31:13 She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. & Pro 31:19 She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.) Gathering grain in the field, she was quiet and wise ( Pro 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.) Boaz notices her. When you read the rest of the story, you will see the picture of Boaz as her kinsman redeemer, and how she is restored, AND she has a child by the name of Obed, who was the father of Jesse, who was the father of David, from whose line Jesus came.

I see this as a beautiful picture of how God the Father arranged it so that in Jesus' line there were people that were not Jewish, but he saw fit to include different people, giving a picture of being the Redeemer of all peoples.

Ruth was an obedient, loving, honorable, woman, who feared the true and living God. She was a woman after God's own heart.

Strength and Honor are her clothing

Pro 31:25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

A wonderful commentary:

Pro 31:25 Strength and honour are her clothing,.... Strength, not of body, but of mind. The church is clothed with strength, as her Lord, head, and husband, is said to be, Psa_93:1; and which she has from him; for though she is the weaker vessel, and weak in herself, yet is strong in him; and is able to bear and do all things, with a fortitude of mind to withstand every enemy, and persevere in well doing: and she is clothed with "honour"; with honourable garments, suitable to her rank and dignity; in cloth of gold, in raiment of needlework; with the garments of salvation, and the robe of righteousness;

and she shall rejoice in time to come; Aben Ezra interprets it of old age, or of the world to come; and Jarchi and Gersom of the day of death: having fullness of food and clothing, she is not afraid of want in old age, or in any time of distress that may come; and having a good name, laughs at death, and departs in peace; so these interpreters. The church of Christ fears no want at any time, nor need any of her members; they have a clothing that never waxes old, a righteousness that will answer for them in a time to come; their bread is given, and their waters are sure; they shall want no good thing; all their need is supplied from Christ; they have hope in their death, and rejoice then and sing, "O death, where is thy sting?" 1Co_15:55; they will have confidence in the day of judgment, and not be ashamed; shall come to Zion with everlasting joy; and shall rejoice with Christ, angels and saints, to all eternity.

Alot of people think that the bible makes women second-class. Since we are to be submissive to our own husbands, and servants to our families. In this whole passage of the "Proverbs 31 woman" we see this woman is powerful, she is dignified, she is lovely, and empowered. This is so different that what feminism tells us. The world tells us to be strong we leave our families behind and strike out on our own and be our own woman. A woman who fears the Lord knows all her strength comes from Him. From doing things His way. When we lean on the Lord for how we are to conduct ourselves as women, we find that we are in alignment with how we were created, there tends to be a peace the world can not give us. We can have joy that comes from Him, in spite of circumstance.

Let us embrace this, for we know God is perfect, if he says this is who he created us to be, then can we possibly know better? God's ways are higher and Holy, He is Lord and Master, we bow down to His feet. And ask, "Dear Lord how may I serve you today"

How we long for the day we hear...."Well done good and faithful servant"
